Bruce Allen says Jay Gruden was fired because the team stopped responding to him

Justs before his team went out on Thursday night and racked up yet another loss, making it seven total this season, Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen spoke with the Thursday Night Football crew on Amazon Prime and gave the reasoning for why the decision was made to fire former coach Jay Gruden several weeks ago.

“We had to fire Jay,” Allen said, according to Pro Football Talk. “The team wasn’t responding.”

Allen continued to mention that they have had a number of phone calls about the job opening, and says that they have “heard from every agent.”

It was widely believed after Gruden was fired that the Redskins might have a hard time finding a coveted coach, as not many of the top candidates would want to subject themselves to the dysfunction that has been seen in Washington over the past years.
