Broxburn Athletic gear up for East of Scotland title play-offs

Broxburn Athletic boss Brian McNaughton insists the job is only half done as they go into the East of Scotland title play-offs.

The Brox sealed the Conference C title last weekend in their maiden season in senior football and will now take on Penicuik Athletic and Bonnyrigg Rose over successive weekends for the overall title – with the winners potentially in place for promotion to the Lowland League.

Athletic make the trip to Penicuik on Saturday before hosting Bonnyrigg in the final match at Albyn Park next weekend. Bonnyrigg host Penicuik on Wednesday night.

And the gaffer knows his side’s achievements to win their Conference were impressive – but has called on his troops for one last push.

Speaking to the Courier, he said: “It was great to win the league. The players celebrated on Saturday, and rightly so, but there’s a bigger prize round the corner. It’s half a job done and we want to finish it.

“We had a really strong Conference with the likes of Jeanfield, Linlithgow and Camelon all very good teams so to have just two defeats in the whole of the league section speaks volumes about the players.”

He added: “Penicuik and Bonnyrigg are both very good teams but they’ll also be looking at us as a good team. We’ll have to be on top of our game to get the results we need but I think over the course of the season we have shown that we’re capable of competing against the best teams.

“I’m pleased that we’re there, but it’s not the end for us. We’re looking for more and really need that last push.”
