Broxburn Athletic cruise into Challenge Cup second round with victory over Creetown

Broxburn Athletic cruised into the second round of the Soccer Shop Direct Challenge Cup thanks to a convincing 6-0 home win over Creetown on Saturday.

The Brox were made to wait, though, as the South of Scotland outfit went into the break on level terms before the hosts netted six after the interval and will host Irvine Meadow in the next round.

Cammy Ross opened the scoring on 50 minutes before doubling his tally four minutes later.

Greg Redmond made it three on the hour mark before Liam Ireland added to the lead.

Ross completed his hat-trick nine minutes from time with Gary Brass rounding off the scoring.

A delighted Athletic boss Chris Townsley said: “We had to be patient because they defended really well and were stuffy to play against.

“I told them at half-time to stick to the game plan, which they did, and I knew the quality and fitness would come through eventually.”

He added: “I’m delighted for Cammy to get his hat-trick but the whole team played well.

“I changed things up a bit to make sure everyone was getting some game time and it shows that we have great depth.

“As a whole, the coaching staff don’t really see us as having first and second choice players because there’s really no drop off.”
