Broxburn Academy win Scottish Schools' Senior Shield in emphatic fashion with 7-0 victory over Turnbull High School

Broxburn Academy under-18 girls were crowned Scottish Senior Shield champions thanks to an emphatic 7-0 victory over Turnbull High School in the final.

Despite the final scoreline, Broxburn struggled early on against the team from Bishopbriggs, who boasted more experience with their side featuring mainly S6 pupils.

However, after weathering the early storm, a blistering display from Emma McFadyen saw the title secured at half-time as she netted five quickfire goals to put Broxburn 5-0 up at the break.

Two further goals were added in the second half with McFadyen making it a double hat-trick. Rosha Muirhead fired home Broxburn’s other goal.

The victory is just the latest piece of silverware for the school following on from the under-15 girls’ team who won the 2017 Scottish Shield.

Broxburn Academy headteacher Peter Reid said: “Well done to the girls, they were absolutely tremendous.

“They are a credit to the school and the PE department. The team’s coach, Rab Swindells deserves immense credit and thanks for guiding the girls throughout the year.”

He added: “The match was played in a fantastic spirit and Turnbull High School provided tough opposition. The team should be very proud of this achievement and everyone at Broxburn Academy is delighted for them.”
