The New York Giants have already ruled four players out for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, including running back Saquon Barkley, wide receiver Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney, and tight end Kyle Rudolph.
Head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Friday that he’s yet to make a decision on the status of quarterback Daniel Jones and others.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the aisle, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski feels his team got enough quality work in against the Giants during their joint practices that he’s comfortable resting most of his starters.
“On Sunday playing the Giants, we will have a very similar plan that we had this last ballgame in terms of the guys that we rested, but I am going to work through that with the coaches coming off the field just to see what our depth chart looks like and that type of thing and the rotations, but that will be our plan on Sunday,” Stefanski said.
Among those included in the “majority” of players who will sit are quarterback Baker Mayfield. It’s also likely that wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., defensive lineman Myles Garrett and running back Nick Chubb also do not play.
“Correct,” Stefanski said when asked specifically if Mayfield will sit.
“Exactly. They fit in the majority,” Stefanski added when asked about Garrett and fellow D-lineman Jadeveon Clowney.
It’s entirely possible the Giants rest most of their starters as well, leaving depth to get the majority of the snaps as roster evaluations continue.
