Browns will not have team captains for the season under Kevin Stefanski

One of the more evident changes being implemented by new Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski involves the leadership of the team. The new regime will not name season-long team captains, a break from tradition.

Instead, the Browns will have one weekly captain assigned for each of the 16 games.

“We do have a leadership committee and we do have a social justice committee,” Stefanski said in his Zoom press conference around Thursday’s practice. “My message to the players is you do not need a C on your chest to be a great leader.”

Stefanski added that he knows who will be designated as the team captain for Sunday’s opener in Baltimore, but he has not informed the player or the team just yet.

Last year the Browns had one captain each for offense, defense and special teams. Baker Mayfield, Christian Kirksey and Charley Hughlett served as the captains under then-head coach Freddie Kitchens.
