Browns vs. Patriots series history still favors Cleveland

The bye week for the Browns has finally come to an end. It’s Week 8, and the Browns travel to Foxborough to battle the New England Patriots. The defending Super Bowl champions are undefeated this season at 7-0.

Since 1971, the Browns lead the series 13-11 all-time. The two teams have met a total of 24 times, which includes one postseason game in the 1994 season, a 20-13 Cleveland victory. Before the Browns left for Baltimore in 1996, they won 11 out of 15 games against New England.

But since 1999, the Patriots have captured eight out of 10 meetings. The last time the Browns defeated the New England Patriots was on Nov. 7, 2010 — a 34-14 win.

The Browns will be facing one of the greatest head coaches of all time, Bill Belichick. He has a career record of 299-134, including the playoffs. In the last four years before the move, Belichick was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. In the five seasons Belichick was the coach in Cleveland, he went 37-45.

There will be some former Browns playing in the game on Sunday as well. Former first-round pick Danny Shelton, cornerback Jason McCourty and linebacker Jamie Collins are all Patriots. Josh Gordon went on injured reserve this week, and according to one report, New England will soon release him.

Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m. on CBS. The Patriots are 12.5-point favorites over the Browns.
