Browns trade DE Genard Avery to Eagles for draft pick

Genard Avery is now a Philadelphia Eagle. The Browns traded the defensive end to the Eagles for an undisclosed draft pick in 2021 on Monday.

Avery was a sixth-round pick in 2018 from Memphis and played a solid contributing role as a rookie pass rusher. He did not fit as well in new coordinator Steve Wilks’ defense and had been a healthy scratch for most of this campaign.

He did play in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots, perhaps as a trade showcase. Avery bagged 4.5 sacks as a rookie and will return to a more fitting role in Philadelphia, which runs a 4-3 defense more tailored to his skills.
