The Cleveland Browns have made an interesting move at the tight end position. The team announced they have signed free agent Rico Gathers and waived Orson Charles.
Gathers was recently dumped by the Dallas Cowboys after three seasons with the team. The 6-6, 280-pound Gathers was a basketball standout at Baylor but did not play college football. He struggled to get onto the field with the Cowboys after being a 6th-round pick in 2016. Gathers had 3 receptions for 45 yards in limited duty last season, his only NFL experience.
Charles caught 3 passes for 23 yards last season, his first in Cleveland. He had been the team’s primary starting fullback throughout training camp, as well as seeing reps at tight end.
