Browns sign second-round pick Greedy Williams

Despite not having a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft thanks to the Odell Beckham trade, the Cleveland Browns still landed a first-round talent in LSU CB Greedy Williams. On Tuesday morning, the Browns announced that Williams has signed his rookie contract with the team. With Williams signing, the Browns have now signed six of the seven-man 2019 Draft class, leaving just BYU LB Sione Takitaki as the lone pick unsigned by the team.

In Williams, the Browns are looking to have their complement to second-year CB Denzel Ward. Williams provides length (6-foot-2) and ball-hawking abilities (eight INTs, 21 pass deflections) on the boundary that should help new Browns defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

Browns Wire’s Josh Keatley had this to say about Williams:

Williams has fallen and he may not be the answer as a number one corner, but he certainly checks all of the physical boxes to become that. In Cleveland, he doesn’t have to worry about the high expectations of shutting down the opposing team’s number one as Ward will be taking those duties. Williams is perfectly suited to take over the number two role and should surpass his second-round selection with ease.

The Browns and Williams seem to be a perfect marriage on all accounts. Now that he’s signed, all that’s left is to see him perform on the field.
