Browns release safety Jermaine Whitehead after post-game Twitter rant

The Browns announced that defensive back Jermaine Whitehead was waived on Monday morning.

Whitehead went on a Twitter rant after receiving criticism from Browns fans and former Ohio State and NFL defensive back Dustin Fox, who currently hosts an afternoon talk show on The Fan (92.3-FM).

Whitehead was assailed on Twitter for missing tackles on plays that allowed the Broncos to score two touchdowns, including an, 75-yard catch-and-run by rookie tight end Noah Fant,

In tweets to fans, he threatened violence in some instances. When Fox tweeted: "Whiteheads effort tackling today is a joke."

The safety replied afterwards.

"Come get it in blood b__ a_made a_ lil boy. I'm out there with a broke hand..don't get smoked f_- a_ cracker."

Some consider "cracker" to be a racial slur on the level of the "n-word."

A Browns spokesperson issued a statement after the game. "Jermaine Whitehead's social media posts following today's game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate. We immediately spoke with Jermaine upon learning of these comments. The Browns in no way condone that type of language or behavior. This matter will be further addressed internally."
