Browns’ probability to make the playoffs drops to 41 percent after bye week

The Cleveland Browns did not play during Week 5 but saw their playoff odds drop to just 41 percent according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. As they get set to take on the San Francisco 49ers this week, the schedule of the Browns’ does open up a bit, but they have to get through a juggernaut first.

On top of this, the Browns currently sit at just a 17 percent chance to win the division despite sitting just one game out through five weeks. Their odds of winning the Super Bowl sit at less than one percent. Their opponents this week, however? The Niners sit with a nearly 32 percent chance to win the Super Bowl and a 99.7 percent chance to make the playoffs.

Luckily for the Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers sit at just about the same odds while the Cincinnati Bengals still trail them. The Baltimore Ravens currently lead the AFC North in this metric with a 57 percent chance to win the division and a 77 percent chance to make the playoffs. To the Browns’ favor, the AFC North has been a massive disappointment thus far.

The Browns have the chance to shock the world this week against the Niners, and if they do those odds will shoot through the roof.
