Browns players quickly start recruiting DT Gerald McCoy after release

Playing for the rising force that is John Dorsey’s Cleveland Browns is alluring, so some of the Browns players have no problem trying to sell former Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on joining the party in the Dawg Pound.

McCoy was released by the Buccaneers on Monday after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on modifying his $13 million salary for 2019. The move had been the subject of speculation for months, and the Browns have been one of the teams often expected to go after the six-time Pro Bowler.

Browns players Odell Beckham Jr. and Damarious Randall quickly commented on the NFL’s posting of McCoy’s release. Bryan Shaw, a meteorologist for Cleveland’s WEWS-TV, captured this on his Twitter feed:

Jets defensive tackle Leonard Williams chose a different plan of attack, giving more of a moral support for McCoy being a victim of the business of football.

Will it work for the Browns? The sales pitch can’t hurt.
