Browns official depth chart vs. Buccaneers features a surprise at RG

The official depth chart released by the Cleveland Browns every week, as required by the NFL, is decidedly unofficial in nature. It’s often compiled by staffers below the coaches or the team’s media relations department, and they do the best they can with the morsels of information the coaches give them.

Even so, there’s a very interesting wrinkle in the offensive line listing for this week’s matchup versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Specifically, there is a newcomer to the party at the unsettled right guard spot.

Eric Kush remains listed as the starter. That’s preserving the status quo and sure looks like it will be the case once the preseason ends. But behind him as the second-team RG is someone new: Willie Wright.

Not Austin Corbett. Not Kyle Kalis. Not Drew Forbes. Not Bryan Witzmann.

Wright is an undrafted rookie from Tulsa who has primarily spent the summer as the team’s third-string center. He has not taken any 1st or 2nd-team reps at right guard during any open practice session throughout training camp.

As for the others, Corbett is the second-team center behind JC Tretter. Kalis is listed behind Wright, which if it plays out would be a demotion for Kalis. Forbes, the team’s sixth-round rookie, is the third-string left guard behind starter Joel Bitonio and Witzmann.
