Browns' Odell Beckham Jr. says Gregg Williams teaching 'dirty hits' caused string of leg injuries he's endured

BEREA, Ohio _ Odell Beckham Jr. is not a fan of Gregg Williams or his coaching style.

Beckham suffered a high-ankle sprain during the 2017 preseason when he was a member of the New York Giants playing the Browns and former Cleveland defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun hit him low.

Traded from the Giants to the Browns in March, Beckham blames Williams, the new defensive coordinator of the Jets. Beckham said he believes the sprain ultimately led to a broken ankle later the same year and a torn quadriceps last season.

"It's preseason. It's like a known rule. In preseason, nobody in the NFL's really out to do stuff like that," Beckham said Thursday. "I had players on this team telling me that that's what he was telling them to do _ take me out of the game, and it's preseason. So you just know who he is. That's the man calling the plays."

The Browns (0-1) are preparing to visit the New York Jets (0-1) on "Monday Night Football," and Beckham will be on alert for tactics he associates with Williams, whom the NFL suspended for the 2012 season for his leading role in the New Orleans Saints' bounty-gate scandal.

"Probably just got to watch out for the cheap shots and the dirty hits and all the things that he likes to teach," Beckham said. "That's pretty much all we've got to watch out for."
