Browns new DC Steve Wilks wants Myles Garrett to ‘add to his repertoire’

New Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Steve Wilks loves what he’s seen from Myles Garrett in the defensive end’s first two NFL seasons. But Wilks believes Garrett can do even more, and the new coach is excited about working with the defensive end to push his star even higher.

“When you look at some of the core guys, Myles, a very talented individual,” Wilks said in his introductory press conference. “I’m excited about working with him and trying to really get him to that next level.”

One of the ways in which Wilks believes Garrett can improve is by broadening his pass rush moves. No. 95 did finish with 13.5 sacks in 2018, but some of those came simply from being a freak athlete more than a dominant tactician without sacrificing Garrett’s stellar run defense.

“That’s the one thing we have to pride ourselves in is stopping the run first. I think he does a great job of doing that. We just have to continue to add to his repertoire for pass rush.”

Wilks also wants to help Garrett by adding more pass rushing talent around him. Second-year tackle Larry Ogunjobi was the only other Browns player to top five sacks in 2018.
