Browns legend Bobby Mitchell has passed away at 84

NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Bobby Mitchell, who began his illustrious career with the Cleveland Browns, passed away on Sunday. Mitchell was 84.

The fleet-footed flanker played his first four seasons with the Browns, from 1958-1961. He was a versatile weapon for those Browns teams, rushing for over 500 yards all four seasons while also catching at least 32 passes in three of those years.

He went onto his brightest years with the Washington Redskins, where he was the first African-American player in franchise history. When he retired after the 1969 season, Mitchell ranked 3rd all-time in receptions, 8th in receiving yards and 5th in total touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.

No cause of death was given by the family in any preliminary reports.
