Browns injury update: Baker Mayfield sits out bye week practice with hip issue

Baker Mayfield stood on the sidelines as an observer for Tuesday’s Cleveland Browns practice in Berea. Mayfield is nursing a hip injury and did not participate in the bye week practice session.

The second-year QB injured his left hip after landing hard following a run in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Mayfield briefly left the field and sought evaluation in the locker room with trainers, but he did not miss a play.

Backup Garrett Gilbert, who was warming up during the game in case Mayfield could not return, took the first-team reps in practice on Tuesday. Eric Dungey is the only other quarterback on the Browns roster, and the recent addition to the practice squad filled in as the No. 2 with Mayfield idle.

The Browns are currently on their bye week and do not play again until visiting New England on October 26th.
