Browns injury report: Dontrell Hilliard among 3 players out from Friday’s practice

It’s a good thing the Cleveland Browns get an extra day to prepare for the Week 2 contest with the New York Jets. Several Browns remain among the walking wounded after Friday’s practice session.

Three players have missed both days of practice this week, including backup RB and primary return man Dontrell Hilliard. He has yet to clear the concussion protocol. If he is still idle during Saturday’s practice, it’s extremely unlikely Hilliard will play on Monday night in New York.

Swing tackle Kendall Lamm and LB Adarius Taylor are both also sidelined. Lamm has a knee injury he suffered after just four plays in relief of the ejected Greg Robinson against Tennessee. Taylor has an ankle injury.

Chris Smith also missed the practice session, but his absence is not injury-related. Smith’s girlfriend was killed in a car accident on Wednesday and the team is giving the defensive end whatever time he needs to handle the tragedy.

Left guard Joel Bitonio has been a limited participant, and the Browns sorely need his abdominal injury to allow him to play on Monday. WR Rashard Higgins has also been limited all week.
