Browns don’t get any compensatory draft picks for 2021

The NFL released the full allotment of compensatory draft picks for the 2021 draft on Wednesday. The Cleveland Browns, as expected, did not receive any of the extra picks.

Cleveland was a net spender in free agency in the 2020 offseason. Signing big-ticket free agents like RT Jack Conklin and TE Austin Hooper more than offset the contracts doled out to the players who left Cleveland in free agency, namely LB Joe Schobert. Comp picks are awarded to teams who lost more contract value in free agency than they spent to bring in new players.

The picks start at the end of the third round. The NFL doles out the picks after the third through seventh rounds based on value ranking of the players lost. This year also saw the league award picks to teams who had minority candidates for coaching and front office positions hired away.
