Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner made his debut on the NFL Network Top 100 players of 2019 on Thursday. His strong first season as a starter earned him the No. 62 on the list based on voting by fellow players. Conner is something of a throwback as a runner in today’s NFL opting to deliver punishment to defenders as opposed to trying to make players miss.
This wasn’t missed by Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett. He offered some high praise of Conner when asked about his inclusion on the list.
“That’s a man’s back right there,” Garrett said. “He runs it like kinda old school. He doesn’t try to make you miss. He’s just trying to run through you.”
Conner returns this season as the undisputed starting running back in Pittsburgh. An injury cost him three starts last season but a healthy Conner this year should only build on his impressive 2018 campaign.
