Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi's one-game suspension upheld after appeal

BEREA, Ohio _ The one-game suspension of Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was upheld Wednesday by appeals officer James Thrash.

Jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFL Players Association, Thrash rescinded Ogunjobi's fine of $10,527 stemming from his involvement in the fight between the Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers late in Cleveland's 21-7 win on "Thursday Night Football."

Ogunjobi had his appeal hearing Monday. He will be suspended without pay Sunday when the Browns (4-6) host the Miami Dolphins (2-8). He'll lose a game check worth $48,246.

Thrash also heard the appeal of Browns defensive end Myles Garrett on Wednesday. Derrick Brooks heard the appeal of Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey on Tuesday.

Decisions in the Garrett and Pouncey cases will be issued later this week, the NFL announced. The league suspended Garrett without pay for at least the rest of the 2019 season _ the remaining six regular-season games and playoffs _ and Pouncey without pay for three games.

After Garrett struck Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph in the head with Rudolph's helmet and Pouncey went after Garrett while punching and kicking, Ogunjobi ran behind a helmet-less Rudolph and pushed him to the ground.

"(Ogunjobi), in our view, was going out of his way to escalate this situation," Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, told CBS. "This is an action that could start another melee. It is a potential re-escalation."
