Browns could have interest in acquiring Eagles’ OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai

The Cleveland Browns are looking for reinforcements to help protect Baker Mayfield’s blindside, and one of the Eagles’ most versatile offensive linemen could fit the mold perfectly. According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Halapoulivaati Vaitai could be a person of interest in Cleveland, if the Browns can’t swing a trade for the Redskins Trent Williams.

Robinson reports that the Browns have reached out to three NFC East teams about doing a deal. The Washington Redskins, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles all have versatile offensive linemen, who are capable of transitioning to the role of starter.

Vaitai fits the mold perfectly — playing in the final year of his rookie deal — as a guy who has shown flashes at both guard and tackle positions. Robinson reports that the Browns are focused on Nate Solder and Williams, but want backup plans if both pursuits don’t work out.

Vaitai has been reduced to a reserve role behind starters Jason Peters and Lane Johnson at tackle, while rookie Andre Dillard is the top priority for management.
