Browns, CB Kevin Johnson agree to a 1-year deal

The Cleveland Browns have added an option to fill the need at slot cornerback by agreeing to terms with free agent Kevin Johnson. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Browns will sign the former Bills and Texans cornerback for one year and $3.5 million, with more earnings up to $6 million possible via incentives.

Johnson comes from the Bills, where he spent one season after four in Houston. He was originally a first-round pick by the Texans out of Wake Forest in 2015 and played well as a rookie. Injuries and a lack of effectiveness have plagued Johnson, 27, ever since.

He played in 16 games, starting one, for Buffalo in 2019. It was the first season since his rookie year where he played more than 12 games. Johnson can play inside or outside but is better-suited to sit in the slot at just 185 lanky pounds.
