Sarah Fuller of Vanderbilt has company in firsts for women and football this weekend.
The Cleveland Browns’ TE coach Drew Petzing left the team to be with his wife as she gave birth to their first child. So, Callie Brownson, the Browns’ chief of staff, will become the first woman to coach an NFL position group in a regular-season game as she handles the tight ends for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Head Coach Kevin Stefanski is a big supporter of the work Brownson has done for the Browns.
“That’s our job to adjust as coaches and to see who’s available to us and put a game plan together to go win,” Stefanski said. “I would go back to I have some really, really good coaches working with me. On a day like this when you’re trying to get the schedule and you’re trying to add extra meetings, Callie is putting everything together for us. She is the star of the day and able to put that together. That’s where I’m lucky to have really good coaches around me.”
Brownson celebrated Fuller’s accomplishment before the soccer goalkeeper kicked off in Vanderbilt’s game with Missouri on Saturday.
