Browns breakout candidate: David Njoku

Thus far, Browns tight end David Njoku’s career has often resembled the Caddyshack meme of Judge Smails animatedly expressing a flustered,

“Well, we’re waiting…”

It’s hard, but important, to remember that Njoku only turns 23 in July. That makes him younger than some of the rookie TEs entering the league, yet Njoku already has two years of NFL experience.

Those two years have produced some tantalizing moments and impressive statistics.

(thanks to Pro Football Reference!)

Wait no more, Browns fans and fantasy football players. Njoku’s time has arrived.

Adding Odell Beckham Jr. might cap the targets for Njoku in the Browns offense, but the freakishly athletic young TE can get more bang for the buck on the targets he gets from Baker Mayfield. Those 4 TDs in each of his first two campaigns could come together in 2019 as safeties have to cheat away to help on Beckham, and also sure-handed Rashard Higgins.

As Njoku has matured, both physically and professionally, his blocking continues to grow. He is not a liability in inline situations, as few as those might be with Demetrius Harris now on the roster.

Year 3 is when it could, and should, all come together for David Njoku.
