Browns Baker Mayfield receives death threats according to his wife

The Cleveland Browns are no strangers to drama during the 2021 NFL season. The problems between QB Baker Mayfield and WR Odell Beckham Jr. led to the receiver departure from the team earlier this season, for example.

A year following a successful first year under Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski, Browns fans had hoped that the drama of the past couple of decades was finally behind them. Unfortunately, it has continued to follow the franchise into 2021.

The struggles on the field have led to a 7-8 record going into the final two weeks of the season. While the team still has a very real shot at winning the AFC North, their quarterback has recently received death threats, among far less serious social media negativity, according to his wife.

Posted to her Instagram story, Emily Mayfield noted death threats, lies and disrespect coming to the Cleveland quarterback through social media. A screenshot of her post from Wednesday:

The Browns quarterback has struggled much of the season and been the target of fans ire for his inconsistent play. While his play has not been up to par, death threats are never appropriate responses from fans.

Mayfield and the Browns have two games left to salvage their season. These new accusations from his wife could lead to more non-football-related questions in the lead-up to Monday Night Football.
