Browns are still the last team to record a shutout in an NFL championship game

The New England Patriots came close to getting the shutout, but the Los Angeles Rams did manage a Greg Zuerlein field goal to avoid the goose egg in Super Bowl LIII.

As a result, the Cleveland Browns remain the last team to shut out its opponent in an NFL championship game, Super Bowl or otherwise.

It’s been a long time. Cleveland defeated the Baltimore Colts, 27-0, on Dec. 27, 1964. That’s two years before the first Super Bowl. It is the last time the Browns won a league championship.

The Browns defense smothered Johnny Unitas and the Colts that day at Cleveland Stadium. They picked off Unitas twice and held the Colts to 11 first downs and 181 total yards. Cleveland’s defense also recovered two fumbles to support a strong game from Frank Ryan, Jim Brown and the Browns offense.
