Browns announce they have released LB Jamie Collins

The Cleveland Browns have released starting linebacker Jamie Collins. The team announced the move on Wednesday.

Collins’ departure is not unexpected. He struggled at times to live up to his big contract, which would have escalated to $10 million in 2019 and $12 million in 2020.

The team acquired Collins in a trade with the New England Patriots on Halloween in 2016 for a third-round pick. He led the team in tackles in 2018 after missing 10 games with injury in 2017.

In their press release announcing the move, the team added a statement from GM John Dorsey thanking Collins for his contributions to the team. Dorsey and Collins’ agent met in Indianapolis during the NFL scouting combine to discuss his future.
