Browns add DE Porter Gustin to the practice squad

The Cleveland Browns signed free agent defensive end Porter Gustin to the practice squad on Monday morning.

Gustin is an undrafted rookie from USC, where he played outside linebacker. The 6-4, 255-pound Trojan originally signed with the New Orleans Saints after the draft. He was released in the team’s final cuts.

Once a heralded recruit, a series of injuries as well as a positive test for Adderall at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine thwarted his career. He offers the same pass-rushing potential the Browns had in Genard Avery, who was dealt to the Eagles prior to the trade deadline.

The Browns had an opening on the practice squad after promoting TE Stephen Carlson to the active roster for Sunday’s game in Denver.
