Browns add big receiver to practice squad

The Cleveland Browns are 3 – 1 but still have a lot of work to do to become the team they want to be. During the first two weeks of the season, the defense was a big question mark while the last two games have brought up questions about the offense around Baker Mayfield.

General manager Andrew Berry hasn’t stopped his pursuit of the perfect roster as he has consistently made changes to the practice squad. Last week, we noted that the Browns worked out five players including four receivers.

Of those four receivers, Riley Ridley was the most known name but the team ended up signing Lawrence Cager following their Week 4 victory. We noted that Cager played in two games for the New York Jets last year, catching two passes for 35 yards.

As noted by the team, Cager stands 6’5″ and is 220 pounds providing the Browns a different style of receiver than currently on the roster.

While it is unlikely that Cager will make an impact for Cleveland, barring injuries to the receiver position, he gives the Browns defenders a bigger receiver to work against in practice. If he can somehow put it all together and break onto the roster, all the better.

Cager spent five years in college, the first four at Miami (Fla.) and the final, in 2019, at Georgia.
