The Browns have one of their top playmakers and leaders back from a knee injury just in time for "Thursday Night Football" against the Denver Broncos.
The Browns (3-3) announced they activated Jarvis Landry from injured reserve on Thursday afternoon, meaning the five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is set to return to game action against the Broncos (3-3).
Landry missed the past four games with the sprained medial collateral ligament he suffered Sept. 19 against the Houston Texans. By rule, a player who lands on IR must miss at least three games.
Landry returned to practice Friday, when the Browns designated him for return from IR. He participated again Tuesday, the team's lone practice during its short work week ahead of a Thursday night game.
The Browns are in the middle of a three-game homestand. When Landry spoke Oct. 12 to a small group of reporters, including the Beacon Journal's Marla Ridenour, he said it would be "a perfect time" to come back during this stretch of consecutive games at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Landry has caught six passes for 80 yards and rushed twice for 13 yards and a touchdown this season. He played Sept. 12 in a 33-29 season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, then suffered the knee injury on the second play from scrimmage in a 31-21 win over the Texans in Week 2.
The Browns are decimated by injuries, especially on offense. Backup quarterback Case Keenum will start against the Broncos in place of Baker Mayfield, who was ruled out Wednesday with a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder.
But at least Keenum will be able to target Landry.
Cleveland Browns elevate quarterback Nick Mullens, cornerback Herb Miller from practice squad
The Browns also announced they elevated quarterback Nick Mullens and cornerback Herb Miller from the practice squad to their active roster.
Mullens will serve as Keenum's backup against the Broncos.
The Browns signed Mullens on Sept. 1 after he had been cut by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2018-20 and went 5-11 as a starter.
