Brown Thomas shoppers shocked as Christmas area opens already in Dublin store

Summer is not even over yet and last week we were sweltering in a 30C heatwave so shoppers got a massive shock when they saw festive items already in stock at one Irish store.

Brown Thomas on Grafton Street in Dublin officially opened its 'Christmas Shop' on level three of the store today.

The department store is now stocked with festive goods including Christmas trees, baubles, decorations, stockings, crackers, wreaths, garlands, and food hampers all on sale for the big day in December.

However, many people were outraged at the start of the Christmas shopping four months early.

One person took to Twitter to post a picture of a festive display in the store writing: "You’ve all been warned…"

Twitter users were quick to reply with one person writing: "Ah Summer isn't even over yet!"

A second person wrote: "Ah stop!"

Another person posted a snap of a large Christmas tree up up in the store with the words: "Just no."

However, some Christmas enthusiasts welcomed the early arrival of the festive season with one person responding: "Love it."

The Christmas Shop was launched in all four Brown Thomas stores across Ireland in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway today.

It also means that they are currently hiring for 500 seasonal jobs in a range of full and part-time roles across all stores ahead of the busy festive period.

The Christmas Shop will stock a selection of "true to life" artificial Christmas trees developed from branch cuttings from trees found in nature.

Other standout items in this year’s Christmas Market includes a giant nutcracker and twinkly trees where lighting can be specially customised or synced to music.

A spokesperson for Brown Thomas said: "We are excited to unveil the Christmas Shop and present this year’s festive offering. It is renowned for showcasing an endless choice of the most beautiful and unique decorations and we see strong demand from customers from the time we open."
