Brown Thomas forced to cancel launch of new Kanye West runners over crowd safety fears

Hundreds of fans were left disappointed after Brown Thomas cancelled today’s planned release of runners designed by rapper Kanye West.

A large crowd had queued from the early hours outside the famous old Grafton Street department store to get their hands on a pair of the new Adidas Yeezy Boost 350s trainers.

But the Grafton Street store axed the event amid health and safety concerns - confirming its decision on Twitter at 10.40am.

BT tweeted: “We wish to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused this morning but due to unforeseen Health and Safety concerns we were unable to release Yeezy launch to the general public.”

The store said it would be updating its social media channels with details of a raffle to purchase the runners designed by Kim Kardashian’s other half.

All Falls Down hitmaker West, 42, has built a reputation as a style icon with fans willing to fork out hundreds of euros for clothes and footwear bearing his name.

Gardai said there was no record of a crowd control incident on Grafton Street, but could not rule out whether local gardai may have been called.

One customer claimed people had been queuing outside from midnight and a big crowd gathered at the door and refused to form a queue when asked.

A second fumed: “Maybe you should have made it clear that you needed to be on a list to buy them and so many people would not of turned up...”

Another disappointed customer tweeted: “Was there today for Yeezy black V2 around 7.30am. Was told they are not releasing today at BT.

“Can you please give any update on them?”

In the UK on Friday thousands queued to snap up the designer runners with a price tag of £180 (around €220), with reports that they were being resold online for double the price.

Security guards were brought in to manage crowds at a number of stores across the UK.
