Brown bin boost as council teams switch sides

South Ayrshire Council admitted this week ground maintenance crews turned into bin men to relaunch the garden waste routes.

The Post last week reported the brown bin collections were back on.

A council spokesman said this week: “The coronavirus pandemic has deeply affected council operations, however we continue to concentrate on key services, such as waste collections.

“We’re reacting to rapidly changing circumstances.

“Following government guidance, a large number of waste collection staff became unavailable for work, and we had to implement new working practices.

“Based on this, we took the decision to suspend brown bin collections to enable core household waste collections to continue. Thankfully, colleagues from Grounds Maintenance stepped forward to help and this combined with staff returning to work, has enabled us to restart the garden waste service. The public have been extremely understanding, and we would like to thank them for their patience and support at this challenging time.”
