Broughton Road in Edinburgh closed due to accident with emergency teams at scene

Broughton Road in Edinburgh has been closed to traffic due to an accident.

A stretch of the busy route is off limits between the Pilrig Street and Newhaven Road junction and McDonald Road. The accident is understood to have happened close to Rosebank Cemetery.

Emergency services are currently at the scene with traffic diverted away from the area.

Lothian Buses say that their services have also been affected. Number 36 is being diverted, with buses forced to go via McDonald Road, Leith Walk and Pilrig Street.

The council-run Edinburgh Travel News tweeted: "Broughton Road currently *closed* both ways between McDonald Road and Pilrig Street due to an RTC.

"Emergency services in attendance."

Police Scotland say they were called to the scene at 4pm following reports of a crash which has blocked the road. There are no reports of any injuries at the moment. Officers remain at the scene.
