Brothers team up on 'completely new venture' to open new supermarket in Nottingham

A new supermarket challenging the prices of big-name retailers is opening in Nottingham. Mohammad Jabarkhyl and his brother Mohammad Ajmal Farid have started their "completely new venture" which will be opening in August.

The pair will be opening Finest Supermarket in St Peter's Street, which borders Lenton and Radford, on Monday August 8. The store will sell an array of products and produce ranging from stationary and tobacco to foodstuffs, and it will include its own butcher's.

Mr Jabarkhyl worked at HMP Nottingham before his wife gave birth to their child. He has just recently landed a job as a senior housing advisor at Nottingham City Council but will be helping his brother with administration of the new venture.

He said: "Mr brother is the owner and I'm mainly doing admin. It is the first time we've been into this business. We thought it would be the right location for that area, as we do not have this kind of supermarket. There will be a car park. It is primarily a grocery store and we sell tobacco and meat, Halal meat and pound shop products."

The 400 square metre property was previously home to Turentek, an architecture firm. Residents in the area praised the plans before they were approved back in February.

Mr Jabarkhyl says the shop has created a number of new jobs for the area. He is also on the lookout for a butcher to join their ranks. The products, he says, will be competitively priced amid the ongoing cost of living crisis. And a special offer will be running for the first month, allowing customers who spent £50 to get £5-off their shop.

"For the first month we have a special offer on most of the products," he added. "You will get it cheaper than other shops. It has created job opportunities for the area. We have room for eight to ten staff, but we have six or seven now."
