A shooting and stabbing of two brothers in western Sydney are linked, NSW Police say. (AAP)

A man has been stabbed in the stomach and his brother has been shot in the thigh in western Sydney, with police saying the incidents are linked.

The 30-year-old man was on Friday afternoon found with stab wounds to the stomach in Ermington and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Later on Friday, the man's 28-year-old brother admitted himself to Sydney's Westmead Hospital with a gunshot wound to the thigh.

Police say the incidents are linked and no culprit has yet been caught.
