Brothers rowing the Atlantic issue charity challenge to January gym-goers

Three brothers aiming to become the fastest trio to row the Atlantic have issued a challenge to January gym-goers from the ocean.

The MacLean siblings, from Edinburgh, are now more than halfway through their 3,000-mile journey after setting off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands on December 12.

The team, named Broar, are expected to arrive in Antigua in the Caribbean before the end of January and hope to raise more than £250,000 for charities Feedback Madagascar and Children First, through the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

In a video filmed from their rowing boat as they cross the Atlantic, Lachlan MacLean, 21, Jamie, 26, and Ewan, 27, have now issued a challenge to people back home to hit the gym and row 3,000 metres on a rowing machine.

They ask that video or photo evidence is provided of the row being completed, this is shared on social media with three friends tagged, and £5 is donated to the team's Virgin Money fundraising page.

Glasgow University student Lachlan said: "As we're rowing 3,000 miles, we're challenging you to row 3,000 metres.

"The biggest lesson for us this trip is just how amazing the human body is. It's incredible and capable of amazing things.

"If you're returning to the gym after a break, rowing is one of the most simple and effective ways to get fit.

"Most importantly, by getting involved it's a great way to use your new year resolution to help two very worthwhile charities."
