Brothers play starring role in Irvine Vics win as rookie threatens to upstage legend

Brothers Kevin and Arran Adam played a starring role as Irvine Vics extended their unbeaten league run to 15 games on Saturday.

Striker Kevin bagged both goals in a 2-0 home win over Royal Albert to take his record-breaking tally for the club to 151.

But he still couldn’t wrestle the man of the match award away from his 17-year-old sibling who was a standout on his debut between the sticks after stepping in as an emergency replacement for established No 1 Owen McCallum.

Boss Dougie MacDuff was quick to praise both players. He said: “Arran has been in training with us and done really well.

“With Owen unavailable we gave Arran a chance and for him to step up as a young boy and perform the way he did was brilliant.

“He’s not the biggest but he dealt with every cross that came his way really well. He got referee Ross Haswell’s man of the match award.

“My defenders deserve a lot of credit for protecting him and, to be fair, Kevin was terrific with him, giving plenty of encouraging words in the dressing room

“Arran will go back to his own club now, we only signed him for this game, but we will continue to offer him training facilities.”

Adam broke the deadlock with a point blank range finish just before the half hour mark then headed home a Declan Walsh cross early in the second half to seal all three points.

MacDuff added: “Credit to Royal Albert, they made it difficult for us. I felt we should have had a few more goals.”
