Brothers fight off burglars who targeted a luxury bungalow in Whitefield

Two brothers fought off burglars who targeted a luxury bungalow in Whitefield.

Intruders smashed through rear patio doors to get into the recently refurbished property on Radcliffe New Road.

But once inside they were confronted by two brothers who had been asleep inside.

During a struggle a candle holder was thrown at one of the brothers. He was struck in the face and was later taken to hospital for stitches.

One of the brothers managed to escape from the house during the raid and raise the alarm outside.

Neighbours heard his shouts for help and came out. It is thought the intruders then fled as other residents appeared and they were spooked by barking dogs.

A spokesman for GMP said it is believed the burglars left empty handed.

Police have been making house to house enquiries in the area in a bid to establish if the intruders arrived on foot or in a vehicle.

It is believed the property may have been targeted after it had major refurbishment and landscaping to its front and extensive side garden.

The home is on the main road between Whitefield and Radcliffe in a heavily residential area.

The break-in happened in the early hours of Thursday and police were called at about 5.20am. GMP confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.
