Two brothers have denied murdering a young man who was shot at his family home.

Michael Foy, 22, and James Foy, 18, were charged with murder after 20-year-old Michael Rainsford was shot through a kitchen window.

The victim was at his home in Harrington Road, Litherland on Tuesday, April 7 when gunmen fired at 11.10pm.

Michael and James Foy both of Rossini Street, Seaforth, also denied possessing a firearm and possessing ammunition for a firearm.

They appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday alongside their mum, uncle and neighbour.

Mum Joyce Smith, 45, her brother Craig Johnson, 38, and neighbour Andrea Saunderson, 47, all denied perverting the course of justice in relation to the case.

Smith is charged with destroying a SIM card and a mobile phone "knowing or suspecting they would be relevant to an ongoing investigation".

Neighbour Saunderson is charged with storing clothing "knowing or suspecting they would be relevant to an ongoing investigation".

Johnson is charged with storing an electric bike and facilitating its removal.

Following his son's death Mr Rainsford said: "He was a lovely young lad, who loved his friends and family, who loved him too.

"He wasn't a lovable rogue - he was a normal young man.

"We are only a small family and can't comprehend why such a thing has happened."
