A “stupid argument” led to a man turning up at his brother’s flat armed with a meat cleaver.
William White, 35, was jailed for 22 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday. He admitted illegal possession of a blade and breaching bail conditions designed to keep him away from his sibling.
The disturbance happened at Woodside Tower on June 26. Scott King, prosecuting, said White’s brother heard him shouting in the street.
Mr King told the court: “He was pressing the door entry system buzzer.
“He was asked repeatedly to leave, but refused. Police were called and William White began to run away, but he was chased and caught.
“The meat cleaver was recovered from a garden.”
Sheriff Daniel Kelly described the meat cleaver as a “fearsome implement”.
He told White: “You’ve obviously been very foolish here.”
Sheriff Kelly imposed a 22-month sentence, reduced from 30 months because of his guilty plea and backdated it to June 27.
