Brother of Reading terror suspect 'expresses condolences to families of victims'

The brother of the Reading terror attack suspect has "expressed condolences" to the families of the victims.

Three people died and three others were injured after multiple stabbings in Forbury Gardens in the town centre on Saturday evening.

They continue to question the suspect, Khairi Saadallah, who has been arrested under the Terrorism Act following the incident.

His brother Aiman told the BBC on Tuesday: "I want to express our condolences to the families of the victims that have died & wish a speedy recovery for all those injured.

"I would like to ask press and media give me time to grieve and respect my privacy at this difficult times."

Another brother of the suspect, Mohammeh Saadallah, who lives in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, told Sky News that he last spoke to Khairi the evening before the stabbings.

He said his brother sounded "sad and alone, maybe depressed".

"Before he left Libya he had a mental condition after the terrible war," he added "He was a helpful person, he likes to help people and he gives the old people a hand.

"He was a volunteer in a charity here in Libya and in the United Kingdom. He likes to wear fashion, Western fashion and take pictures of himself."

The suspect's sister, who did not want to be named also told the broadcaster that she was "deeply sorry for the families, the victims, everything you know. And I'm really sorry for Khairi too who has suffered for all this."

She added that her family all believe that "Khairi's a lovely boy who loves life.

"He liked dancing, singing, smoking, drinking, you know. He's a normal person. The family here are surprised," she continued.

"Libya is his homeland but the United Kingdom is his country."

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for the three victims, Joe Ritchie-Bennet, 39, from the US, history teacher James Furlong 35, and David Wails.
