Brother of murdered toddler Cheryl Grimmer pleads guilty to child sex offences

Stephen Grimmer leaves court after pleading guilty to three indecent assault charges.

The brother of murdered toddler Cheryl Grimmer, who disappeared from a NSW beach in 1970, has pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault on a 14-year-old girl.

Stephen Grimmer, 55, had been due to start a week-long trial in Nowra District Court this week, however he pleaded guilty before proceedings began.

There is no suggestion he was involved in his sister's disappearance as he was six years old at the time.

Court documents describe that Grimmer began isolating the 14-year-old girl at a NSW South Coast caravan park in April 2016 and saying things like: "I wish I was your age."

He also kissed the girl on the lips and put his hands in her shirt and bra.

Grimmer told the girl not to tell anyone because he "could get in a lot of trouble".

In another incident, he tried to force himself on the girl despite her repeatedly asking him not to.

Court papers revealed that in September 2016 Grimmer resumed indecently assaulting the girl, however she disclosed the incidents to a friend who reported it to adults.

Grimmer was confronted about the assaults and the matter was reported to police.

He was arrested and charged in April 2017.

Judge Chris O'Brien on Thursday granted Grimmer conditional bail and he will reappear in court in February for sentencing.
