Brother of missing Scot Alan Taylor's anguish as 'chances of finding him alive are slim'

The devastated brother of missing Scot Alan Taylor has said the chance of finding him alive are 'very slim'.

Alan, from Dundee, was last seen on September 8, and is believed to have been at The Three Sisters in Glencoe around 6am on Thursday September 9.

The 57-year-old was reported missing when he failed to return to work on Tuesday September 21 as his worried siblings realised something was wrong.

His car, a grey Fiat Punto - registration TN07 OWK - was found abandoned at The Three Sisters carpark and it is believed to have ben there since September 9.

Brother Derek, 52, and sister Angela, 51, said their brother was notoriously bad for texting back and enjoyed his own company planning walking routes.

But two weeks later they realised something was terribly wrong when Alan did not return to work and the food in his house had went out of date.

Derek told the Record: "He is quite happy in his own company planning his next walk and researching.

"He doesn't tell people when he is going away. He loves walking and has done all the munros twice.

"He was supposed to be back at work on the 10th of September but had a week off after that so we thought he had maybe got his dates mixed up and gone to do the West Highland Way.

"Then when he never turned up to work on the Tuesday - that's when we really started to worry more.

"We panicked. Up until then it was not too unusual.

"It has been hard, I had to take a few days off work and my sister is off work now. We are planning to go up this weekend."

Derek says Alan's disappearance is out of character and the family believe he may have slipped in the dark while out climbing.

The family now fear the worst but hope that someone will be able to help them locate Alan.

He continued: "We think he has maybe slipped in the dark and fell but a million other things are going through my mind. You've just got to wait.

"The chances of him being alive are, I think, very slim but it is the not knowing.

"He had food dated in the fridge for the 15th of September and he doesn't chuck food out. He had definitely planned to be back."

Police and mountain rescue teams have been sourcing the area but it not known which direction Alan walked in.

It is thought he was wearing camouflage trousers and a potentially dark coloured top. He often wears tinted glasses with a yellow lens and could have been carrying a small rucksack.

Regular gym goer Alan is described as being around 5ft 7in, of slim build but with broad shoulders and short greying hair.

His family believe he would have stopped and spoken to someone if he bumped into people on the trail.

They are urging anyone who was at The Three Sisters on September 9 to rack their brain in case they can help narrow down the search area.

Derek added: "Were you in Glencoe on the 9th of September? If you remember him - surely someone will - please get in touch.

"We know he was parked at The Three Sisters on the day but we don't know if he has crossed the road or not and it is a massive, massive area."
