Brother of Las Vegas shooter arrested in connection with child sex abuse offences

A brother of the man who shot and killed almost 60 people in Las Vegas earlier this month has reportedly been arrested on possession of material relating to child sex abuse.

Bruce Paddock, a brother of Stephen Paddock, was detained in Los Angeles.

The Associated Press said it was unclear whether the offences alleged against Bruce Paddock, who is not a suspect in the shooting, predated the Las Vegas massacre.

Fifty-eight people were killed and hundreds more were wounded on 1 October at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip. Stephen Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay casino-hotel tower, before killing himself as police prepared to storm the room.

Another brother, Eric Paddock, spoke to media following the shooting but Bruce Paddock did not.

News of Mr Paddock’s arrest was first reported by TMZ, which said he was taken into custody at an assisted living facility in North Hollywood. It said that police obtained a warrant after allegedly being told that material relating to child sex abuse existed on his computer.

It was not immediately clear whether Mr Paddock had been assigned a lawyer, whether he had been charged or been given a chance to enter a plea.
