Brother of Glasgow Airport terrorist arrested in alleged terrorism recruitment plot

The doctor brother of an extremist who tried to kill hundreds of people in a terrorist attack at Glasgow Airport has been arrested in India accused of being involved in a plan to recruit terrorists.

Dr Sabeel Ahmed was detained by the National Investigation Agency on Friday after being deported from Saudi Arabia.

The 39-year-old, whose sibling Kafeel Ahmed died after driving an explosive-laden jeep into Glasgow Airport terminal building in June 2007, has appeared in court in Delhi.

He has been charged in connection with an alleged Lashkar-e-Taib (LeT) terrorist recruitment plot which was first detected in 2012, the Indian Express reports.

Ahmed was previously jailed for 18 months after failing to disclose information to police about his brother’s evil plans to blow up part of Glasgow Airport.

After serving his sentence in the UK, he was then deported to India before later moving to Saudi Arabia where he worked at a hospital.

Extremist Kafeel Ahmed died in hospital from his injuries two months after driving a Jeep filled with gas canisters into the main entrance of the airport terminal.

The 28-year-old set himself on fire and suffered burns over 90 per cent of his body before dying at Glasgow Royal Infirmary on August 2, 2007.

His accomplice Bilal Adbullah, who worked as a doctor at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, survived and was jailed for a minimum of 32 years.

Five members of the public were hurt after the initial collision but thankfully their injuries were not believed to be serious.

John ‘Smeato’ Smeaton, a bag handler, had been on a cigarette break when he heard a series of explosions and ran to help.

He launched a well-aimed kick at the groin of Kafeel Ahmed - a move which saw him honoured for his bravery by the Queen.
