Brother of Brit killed by ISIS warns radicalisation is rising in lockdown

Radicalisation is on the increase in lockdown, warns the brother of a British man ­murdered by Islamic State.

Mike Haines, brother of aid worker David who was beheaded by IS in 2014, said youngsters feeling marginalised are more vulnerable to extremists’ pressure.

He said: “The situation just before lockdown was grave, and it’s only got worse.

"There has been more online ‘grooming’ of youths for all extremism.

“I use the word ‘grooming’ as there are so many similarities between the steps extremists take and the steps paedophiles take.

“Teachers and police have told me that cases of online grooming have gone up.

"People are getting pushed to the fringes of society. They have a feeling that they don’t belong.

“So I believe we are now at a crossroads.”

Mr Haines, from Dundee, who runs education charity Global Acts of Unity, appears in BBC2 series In The Face Of Terror, starting on Monday with a focus on the “Beatles” IS terror cell that killed David.
