Brother Kevin 'will miss Dublin' as he retires from Capuchin Homeless Centre

Brother Kevin Crowley has announced his retirement from the Capuchin Day Centre after over half a century of service.

The charity for the homeless was founded in 1969 by Br Kevin in Smithfield to help feed the most vulnerable members of society. The centre was built after Br Kevin found several men eating food out of bins in the capital.

Since then, the charity has gone on to feed thousands of people including those battling drug addiction and poverty. The centre provides over 700 meals each day and over 1500 food parcels each Wednesday to the homeless and poor of Dublin.

Br Kevin said his only regret is that there is still a need for the centre after it was established 53 years ago. He will be stepping down from his role later this month and will be moving to west Cork to be with his family.

He told the Irish Independent: "I will miss Dublin and the Dubs who volunteer to make the centre work as well as it does in serving so many people. We would be nothing without them."
